Gemstone Faceting & Lapidary

G.A.E.A. specialises in the faceting rare and unique precious gemstones and crystals.

Gemstone_Manufacture_1We have been in the jewellery manufacturing  business since 1984 and gemstone and diamond production since 1989.

Our expertise is faceting specimen rough gemstones and crystals.  Each and every gemstone in our premier collection is uniquely faceted; a one of a kind and the only one in existence.

There are not many materials which we will not custom facet for that special occasion or purpose. We have faceted all types of materials from Gallstones to Emeralds.

Gemstone_Manufacture_2The faceting process starts with the selection of the right rough. The gemstone rough must have specific qualities in order for a quality of the final product to be created.

We examine rough for clarity and colour and in the case of “healing stones” look to enhance it to it’s maximum effect.

After the gemstone rough has been carefully selected, it goes to the sawing process where it is cleaved into its appropriate  final size, keeping in account it’s weight at the final process. The majority of stones lose 30-40% on weight during the faceting process.

Gemstone_Manufacture_3Once cleaved, the stone is preformed by hand in the lapidary to define its shape (i.e. Rectangle/Square/Round)

The next step is to dop the stone onto a specially designed mandrel using jewellers wax, which sets the gemstone in place whilst the gem is being faceted and polished.

The dop is then transferred to the arm of the faceting machine. G.A.E.A. uses the most precision orientated faceting machinery available worldwide unlike large gemstone producing companies who use jam-peggers or two faceters to one basic lapidary machine.

Gemstone_Manufacture_4Our master faceters work tirelessly to ensure each gemstone is gets the attention it deserves after millions of years of creation. The facetors “work with and listen to” the gemstones needs and requirements. A stressed gemstone can have a “heart attack” and blow and fracture, therefore it needs to be handled with great care and attention.

After the pavilion facets have been cut and polished, the gemstone is carefully tranferred to a second dop using  a precision transfer jig, so that the table can be cut.

Unlike most other faceting companies, G.A.E.A. polish the girdle of the gemstone to maximise light reflection. This attention to fine detail further differentiations our premium gemstone collection to others.

Once the table is cut and polished, the gemstone is removed from the dop, de-waxed, cleaned and inspected for grade and quality. It is then carefully stored ready for dispatch to you, the customer.

When you purchase a gemstone from G.A.E.A., you can be assured that it has been treated with care and respect. If it is a rutilated gemstone, our master facetors ensure the beauty of the rutilations are most suitably shown.

The gemstone you purchase will no doubt be treasured by you for a long, long time. It may be worn everyday and become an integral part of your daily life.
