Orange sapphire is made up of the mineral corundum and iron impurities which give it its distinctive colour. This is further enhanced under heat treatment.

Sapphires are extremely hard wearing and tough and generally, the clearer and more vivid the colour, the more valuable the orange sapphire.

Orange sapphires tend to be more exclusive than the blue variety.
